South African URL shortener

Posted by rivalblogger on February 28, 2010

I normally use TinyURL.com to shorten by URL’s for Twitter but I was surprised to find out that there is a South African URL shortener and I have started using it a coupla times in the last week.

For those who haven’t checked it out you can find it here -  http://mzan.si/ - it is great to use a South African product and service.

My question though is what these URL shortening websites / services get out of offering the service? Any ideas?

    Hi there
Personally I dislike ANY service that uses iframes to show other peoples content, its just plain irritating.
What they get out? Well, that can sell ad space along the top strip if they wanted to.

Maybe… but the site doesn’t look geared for advertising. Plus if I remember correctly it was developed by Quirk so publishing isn’t really their game??

As I recall mzan.si was developed for the South African tourism bureau to help promote South Africa before the 2010 World Cup. I dont think the mzan.si url shortner was developed with making money in mind, but I agree with Nick in that iframe url shortners is a no no for me as well.
